[Video] Theo Walcott Scores As Arsenal FC Beat Wolfsburg 1-0 To Claim The Emirates Cup

Arsenal FC beat Wolfsburg 1-0 in the second match of the Emirates Cup to win the pre-season tournament with 13 points, 3 more than second placed Villarreal to win their first Emirates Cup in five years, after annihilating Olympique Lyon yesterday.

Theo Walcott scored the only goal of the evening, after being fed through by 17-year-old Jeff Reine-Adelaide, who put in a man of the match performance in only his second pre-season appearance for the Gunners. Petr Cech made his Emirates debut for the Arsenal FC as they beat the Bundesliga runners-up 1-0.

Wolfsburg started the brighter of the two teams, testing the 33-year-old veteran with a series of teasing crosses, and the away side should have taken the league, but for Nicklas Bendtner, who could not connect with a fine cross by former Chelsea FC midfielder Kevin de Bruyne in the 16th minute.

Mesut Ozil, the star of yesterday’s 6-0 drubbing of Lyon, pulled the strings with Jack Wilshere for Arsenal Fc, as they started to impose themselves in the game. Petr Cech showed how good he was, when he found Ozil with a brilliant 70-yard pass in the 24th minute, however the German’s cross was cleared at the back post. Ozil put the ball on a plate for the on-rushing Theo Walcott, who shot straight at Benaglio from a tight angle. Walcott put the ball in the back of the net in the 33rd minute, but it was ruled offside. Ozil then almost put the Gunners in front with a first time volley that just squirmed past the post in the dying seconds of the first half.

Jeff Reine-Adelaide, the 17-year-old new recruit, who was hyped by Arsene Wenger after last night’s appearance, was impressive, as he used his skills and clever footwork to good use, skinning Kevin de Bruyne in the first half. In the second half he burst forward on a run, reminiscent of the old Patrick Vieira days, and played a perfect through ball to Theo Walcott, who calmly slotted past the on-rushing keeper to break the deadlock. The 17-year-old almost repeated the same routine only minutes later, however, he slightly over hit his pass to Theo Walcott. The 17-year-old earned a standing ovation from the Emirates crowd, when he was subbed in the 63 minute.

Josuha Guilavogui’s powerful drive from 25-yard-out was stopped by Petr Cech, with the central defensive pairing of Calum Chambers and Gabriel equal to whatever the Wolfsburg attack had to offer.
