According to reports, Manchester United have expressed an interest in Real Madrida s coveted a B.B.Ca trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale. And though Real Madrid have allegedly refused to negotiate, the question remains- Is Ed Woodward purposely toying with Real Madrid to keep David De Gea at Manchester United?
With a transfer budget of A?200 Million, Manchester United are looking to invest heavily this summer in order to assemble a team that can compete in the English Premier League along with the rigours of the Champions League. However, as Van Gaal and co look at other clubs for possible recruits, their main concern revolves around the future of David De Gea.
The Spaniard has refused to sign a contract extension with Manchester United and has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid where he is likely to usurp Iker Casillasa position between the posts. At the same time, Manchester United seem to have found an interest in several top players at Real Madrid, including the trio of Benzema, Bale and Ronaldo, popularly known as a B.B.Ca . However, these reports have been doing the rounds for several years now as United have been linked with a ploy to a bring Ronnie homea for an astronomical deal every summer. But is there more to these reports than what meets the eye?
Manchester Uniteda s insistent interest in Ronaldo, Bale and Benzema could be seen as a carefully disguised ploy to shake off Real Madrida s interest in David De Gea. Having patiently waited for the goal-keeper to blossom into the monstrous saviour that he is now, Manchester United would loathe to see him pack his bags for Real Madrid who have always been keen on recruiting players from Old Trafford. And in order to derail Madrida s efforts, Manchester United could be hoping to destabilize their top talents by insistently pursuing them.

From Manchester Uniteda s point of view, they have nothing to lose from this valiant effort. Even if their pursuit of players like Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale or Cristiano Ronaldo fails, it will at least irk Florentino Perez as it will destabilize the players at Real Madrid. Cristiano Ronaldoa s role under Rafa Benitez has not been well-defined while Gareth Bale has been the subject of much criticism and booing at Real Madrid. Benzema too is uncertain of his future after Carlo Ancelottia s sacking and Madrida s rumoured interest in Sergio Aguero. At the same time, reports also suggest that Sergio Ramos continues to be unhappy with the management as he has refused to sign a contract extension with the club. Thus, even if Manchester United fail, they will succeed in knocking off the balance of the squad at Santiago Bernabeu thus in turn forcing Madrid to concentrate on their own players instead of pursuing David De Gea. And if they succeed in their pursuit, well, they will have a world-class player joining their ranks this summer.

Given the state of the players and their relationship with the club, it will not be far-fetched to assume that Manchester Uniteda s interest is likely to be a tempting proposal for Madrida s Galacticos. Having almost won a place in the Champions League next season, United can offer these targets the same perks as enjoyed by them at Real Madrid. Well, almost all the perks, except for the sunny weather enjoyed by Madrid.
Hence as reports linking a Real Madrid player with Manchester United continue to do the rounds, it will not be implausible to suggest that Uniteda s interest in the Galacticos springs from a fierce desire to retain the services of David De Gea at Manchester United.
