Szczesny Should Leave Arsenal FC : Former Polish Goalkeeper

Former Polish international Jan Tomaszewski has advised Arsenal FC . goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to leave the club, following the arrival of Petr Cech.

Wojciech Szczesny broke into the Arsenal first team in the 2010-11 season and has been the number one for Arsene Wenger since. However last season he lost his place in the starting line-up, as the goalkeeper was caught smoking in the dressing room, following a 2-1 defeat against Southampton.

Colombian international David Ospina, who was signed at the start of last season after an impressive World Cup, became the new number one for the London club. In the end Szczesny made only 17 starts in the league, although Wenger did persist with him in the FA Cup. The Frenchman still retained a lot of faith on Szczesnya s abilities and even started him in the FA Cup final against Aston Villa.

Despite the presence of Szczesny and Ospina in the squad, Wenger bought Petr Cech from Chelsea this summer and this move has raised a lot of questions about the future of both the goalkeepers. Reports suggest that it is Ospina who will make way for Cech, as the Colombian has been linked with a move away from the Emirates. Wenger still believes that Szczesny can fulfil his potential and will be helped by the guidance of Cech. But the Polish goalkeeper is sure to spend a lot of time on the bench in the upcoming season and that could jeopardise his place in the national team.

Jan Tomaszewski, the man known for his wonderful performance against England in the 1974 World Cup, has advised Szczesny to leave the Emirates. The 67-year-old insisted that Wenger hasna t delivered what he had promised to Szczesny and that prolonging his stay at Arsenal will be a waste of time, following the arrival of Cech.

“In January I spoke to Poland manager Adam Nawalka and he said that Arsene Wenger had told him that if Szczesny worked hard in training he would play again soon.

“It turned out that he didn’t tell the truth. I’m sure that when Szczesny said that he was going to stay at Arsenal, he didn’t know that Cech was going to come because Wenger didn’t tell him about his plans. Szczesny should leave, because it will be waste of time for him, if he stays.

“Wojciech must be devastated. The Petr Cech transfer is a big problem also for the Polish national team.

“For me Wojciech is still Poland’s number one, world class goalkeeper but after Cech’s transfer he has no chance to play at Arsenal and for Poland. It could be end of his career in national team.” – Tomaszewski told Przeglad.
