Steven Gerrard Urges Liverpool To Renew Duo’s Contracts

Raheem Sterling - Liverpool winger/striker |

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard feels that the club should extend Raheem Sterling and Jordan Hendeson’s contract as soon as possible as the duo are susceptible to potential bids.

Henderson, who is expected to take over the captain’s armband after Gerrard leaves, has a year remaining on his contract and there have been talks over offering him a new five-year deal. Sterling, on the other hand, is developing really well and is holding out for more wages.

Gerrard said, a Raheem knows what I want him to do. Not just him, Jordan Henderson as well.

a When I was coming through at Liverpool every time you got near a couple of years left your contract would be renewed and there would be no worrying and no panic stage.

a But I see Henderson with a year left and Sterling, his future is in the papers too much, and I know there is no smoke without fire.

a So my message to the club is to get these done sharpish because these players are the future of the club and I want to watch the club do well.

a I want to watch them in cup finals and challenging for leagues and ita s those players, your Sterlings and your Hendersons, Sturridges, Coutinhos, who has just signed up, they are the players that are going to deliver so ita s vital we get them done before it is too late.a

Liverpool were unable to convince Gerrard to stay at the club as he announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season for LA Galaxy. The Merseysiders are usually very quick in tying down players to new deals. Manager Brendan Rodgers convinced Luis Suarez to sign a contract last season which allowed them to put a good clause that helped them eventually as they received huge money for his departure. The club also secured the future of Brazilian attacker Philippe Coutinho recently after he signed a contract that will run until 2020.

Last year, Henderson had admitted that he would love to stay at the club after improving really well in the season before and becoming one of the key players for Liverpool, “I’m just concentrating on playing football,” said the England star. “I’m not worried about that.

“I’m enjoying my football. I love this club and I want to be here for many years so that shouldn’t be an issue.

“I’ll let my agent sort that out. It’s nothing to do with me.”

Liverpool face Everton in the Merseyside Derby today and will hope that the duo will be at their best against their neighbours.
