All India Football Federation, has confirmed the appointment of Stephen Constantine, as India Coach. Stephen Constantine, who was at the helm of things with India, from 2002 to 2005, will take charge of the Indian National Football Team and the Indian National U-23 Team.
Constantine, was one of the names held in a fray with NorthEast United’s boss, Ricki Herbert and FC Goa’s Zico, for the position of the manager. The AIFF, however has considered the expertise of Constantine, given that he was incharge of the National Team for three years and guided them to a LG Cup win in Vietnam, whilst finishing runners up for the Afro-Asian Games.
The English coach, managed Rawanda previously and took them to their highest ever world ranking of 68 in last month’s FIFA rankings.
Reports claim that Constantine, will be paid less than former manager Wim Koevermans. However, the appointment of Constantine, is happily welcomed by Indian fans.
Constantine, will be at the helm of things from the first week of February 2015.
