The Portuguese star scored all the three goals for Real Madrid keeping the title hopes alive for The Whites.
Real Madrid travelled to Seville to face one of their toughest challenges in a bid to keep fighting for the league. a Los Blancosa came up against Sevilla, who were unbeaten at home for 35-matches, to win the game despite a few hiccups. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick to take his tally to 42 goals, 2 more than Lionel Messi. Sevilla tried to fight back as they scored a goal each in either halves through Bacca and Iborra.
Speaking to the press after the game, Ancelotti was full of praise for Ronaldo and also stressed on the importance of winning a tough game.
Ancelotti said: “It’s an important win, because it allows us to keep fighting for La Liga and will give us confidence for Tuesday because of the way we played. Cristiano was the star for a team that were given a really tough game and played well.
“It was a very complete match by both teams. We played against very solid opponents who had a support that got right behind them. It wasn’t easy to win, we’re very happy and we keep on fighting. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that no-one had won here.”
League leaders Barcelona are still two points ahead of Ancelottia s side and the 8-0 win over Cordoba has made them the favourites to hold on to that lead for the last three league games of the season. Carlo Ancelotti praised the league leaders but also mentioned that he would rather prefer to win 8 matches with a 1-0 scoreline than one match with an 8-0 scoreline.
He said: “They’re a top team and it’s normal for them to win. They’re in very good form and they are very effective up front. I’m not surprised at them winning by that margin. It’s better to win eight games 1-0 than one 8-0.”
Captain Iker Casillas also spoke about Real Madrida s prospects of winning the title after the game. The Spaniard maintained that it was tough to get the victory and now a Los Blancosa will try to win the remaining three games.
Casillas said: a It was difficult to get a win at the SA?nchez PizjuA?n, where Sevilla had not lost in lots of games. We managed it and it allows us to keep fighting for the league. We have suffered a lot but our chances revolve around winning the three games left.”
