Sergio Ramos “100%” To Reject Manchester United: Rafael Benitez

Sergio Ramos’ injury, coupled with that of Pepe, has rendered the backline devoid of an experienced leader.

Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez is “100 per cent sure” that defender Sergio Ramos will not leave Real Madrid for Manchester United this summer.

Manchester United had earlier tabled a bid of A?28.6 million for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, which was rejected immediately by the Los Blancos.

Manchester United have so far signed four players in Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, while having offloaded Robin van Persie and Nani to Portuguese side Fenerbahce as they look to revamp their squad ahead of next season. Securing the services of a defender and a striker are reportedly next on the Red Devilsa agenda, with Sergio Ramos said to be their top target.

‘Sergio Ramos staying put’

Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez had earlier stated that the player will stay at the club, and has now reiterated that he is confident of keeping him.

Asked whether Ramos was staying he said: “For me, 100 per cent. I insist that it is clear for me and the club, Sergio will be here. Football is a curious world, but Ramos will be staying.

“I have a lot of respect for Louis van Gaal, but Sergio will be staying with us. He is our player, our captain. I would like to see him at the beginning of the season, because he’s a key player for us.”

What this means for De Gea’s move to Real Madrid?

When asked about De Gea’s move to Real Madrid, Benitez refused to get drawn into the topic. He said: “It’s very simple, De Gea is not our player so nothing to say about him.

David de Gea was widely expected to swap Old Trafford for the Bernabeu this summer after the goalkeeper refused a reported A?200,000-per-week offer to stay at . Manchester United.

It was also reported earlier by reliable papers like the Times, that Manchester United were all but resigned to losing their goalkeeper and believe that only a u-turn equivalent to what Wayne Rooney did to sign a contract in 2010 will prevent the Spain goalkeeper from joining Real Madrid.

However, the deal seems to have now hit a roadblock, with Manchester United refusing to let the player go for the reported 30 million Euro that has been offered by Real Madrid unless they get Sergio Ramos

Reports in the Telegraph says that Manchester United have now taken a very hard stance, making it clear to Real Madrid that they are prepared to run down the contract of David De Gea, which has only one year to go, rather than selling them the goalkeeper this season should they not allow them to secure Sergio Ramos.

The stance taken by Manchester United continues to harden as the club make it clear that they value De Gea at the same price.

It looks unlikely that either of the player will move, unless, something that breaks the deadlock that prevails is bought to the negotiation table.
