Ronaldo Set To Return To Old Trafford For Wayne Rooney’s Testimonial

Wayne Rooney may have broken the goal scoring shackles

Wayne Rooney is to be commended by the fans and players for his indebted service to Manchester United, as the Englishman is granted a testimonial on 3rd August, next year. Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has been given an invitation by his former teammate, and fans will be licking their lips at the prospect of watching the deadly duo together again.

Ronaldo, who spent seven sensational years at Manchester United, will grace the Old Trafford turf again and will be one of the many star players to take part in the testimonial.

Reports, according to the Daily Star, claim that Rooney himself telephoned Ronaldo and requested the Portuguese to be a part of the occasion. The duo formed a deadly partnership at Manchester United, and were the two pivotal figures of their treble winning season of 2007-08.

Ronaldo and Rooney not only had a tacit understanding on the field, but also shared a great relationship off the pitch, and one would imagine that Ronaldo’s return will ensure a sell-out crowd for Rooney’s special occasion.

Rooney’s testimonial, but Ronaldo the star of the show?

Ronaldo, who was known for his flicks and tricks at United, has transformed into a goal-machine at Real Madrid, and the dashing Portuguese prince could steel the show as he so often does.

“Ronaldo is a busy man but there was no way he would miss something like this”, a source claimed.

“It promises to be an all-star cast, but Ronaldo will be the biggest of the lot. He might even upstage Wayne himself.”

An emotional day for Rooney

.

In his eleventh season, the Englishman is just seven appearances away from becoming only the 10th Manchester United player to reach 500, and an acknowledgement from the fans and players in the testimonial will be very emotional indeed.

Rooney said, “The match night will obviously be special for me and my family, but I hope that we can also deliver one or two surprises.”

Wayne Rooney’s best is probably behind him, but he’s a Manchester United legend already.

Rooney has struggled to find form this season, with the Everton-born striker having to face heavy criticism due to his lack of goals. Many experts also suggest that the his best is behind him, and the period between 2007-2012 is when he played his best football.

Either way, Rooney is already a Manchester United legend. Signed in the summer of 2004 for A?27m from Everton, his prolific goal-scoring record for the Red Devils speaks for itself, as the Englishman has already paid off every bit of the A?27m. He has scored 236 goals for Manchester United, which leaves him behind only Sir Bobby Charlton (249) and Denis Law (237) in the club’s list of all-time scorers.

Safe to say, it is just a matter of time before he overtakes the greats.
