Rodgers: To Win A Trophy Is Very Important At Liverpool

The Reds face Aston Villa in the semi-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday and Brendan Rodgers talks about the significance of winning a trophy at Liverpool.

Liverpool take on Aston Villa at the Wembley on Sunday in a bid to make through to the finals of the FA Cup. It is the only chance Liverpool have in securing silverware this season and Rodgers is aware of the importance of winning a trophy for the Merseyside club.

On Sunday, should Liverpool win against Aston Villa, they will move one step closer to the FA Cup setting up a final with Arsenal or Reading. The Liverpool manager spoke about how important it is to win trophies at Liverpool and assured that they want to win this for the fans.

“To win a trophy here at Liverpool is something that’s very important – that’s why we’re here,” he said. “No matter what era you’re in, you’ll always be judged here at Liverpool on trophies. We’ve made steps over the last couple of years and we want to continue making those by winning trophies.

“It is something we want to do for the supporters. It’s an incredible support we get here and we want to send them home happy having arrived in another final, hopefully.”

Aston Villaa s current resurgence under Tim Sherwood has impressed everyone. Aston Villa come into the game having beaten Tottenham Hotspur in their own backyard last Saturday. The Midlanders are unbeaten at the Anfield since 2010 and will pose a serious challenge for Liverpool on Sunday at Wembley.

However, Rodgers will take it one game at a time and is not threatened by the opposition as he is looking forward to Sundaya s tie.

Rodgers said: “It’s one game at a time and we have to get over a very difficult game against Aston Villa before we can even think of that.

“The players are in good form and a good moment now. We’ll look forward to the game.”

Speaking to the press at Melwood, Rodgers was quizzed by the reporters on the possibility of being just two wins away from silverware.

He said: “It’s a very long list of managers here that have been very successful in different eras and different times.

“Hopefully, I’ll be judged on my time here – however long that is – on that we’ve worked well and a part of that will be having won trophies.a
