Delhi Dynamos manager Roberto Carlos praised the spirit of his side as they salvaged a late draw against the Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League on Thursday.

Delhi Dynamos headed into the clash against the bottom placed Kerala Blasters as the clear favorites having already secured their place in the semi finals.

However, it was the Kerala Blasters who hit the ground running in the first half in New Delhi. In a see saw contest at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi scored the opener just 7 minutes into the match through a Gustavo Dos Santos header.

However, Dagnall, Coimbra and German struck in quick succession to give Kerala a shock 3-1 lead after 40 mins. Delhi pulled one back just before half time through another header scored by Adil Nabi.

The second half was a much more cagey affair with Kerala tightening up at the back and thwarting Delhi’s efforts to get an equaliser. Just when all hope seemed lost, Delhi midfielder Sehnaj Singh launched a rasping 25 yard drive which flew past the Kerala keeper to snatch a dramatic equaliser in injury time.

Carlos Hails Dynamos Resolve

Speaking to the media after his side’s thrilling 3-3 draw with the Kerala Blasters, Delhi Dynamos manager Roberto Carlos praised his side’s never-say-die attitude.

“Our team is always improving,” said Carlos. “As the competition goes along, the team plays better as they get to know each other better.”

Upon being asked to rate the performance of goal keeper Subhashish Roy Chowdhury who made his first appearance for the Dynamos after returning from a long term injury, Carlos said, “Subhashish was out for 9 months and hence today was a special day for him. Of course he was a bit rusty. But that is to be expected as he has been out for a while”.

Asked about the omission of Robin Singh, Chicao and a few other regular starters from the Delhi Dynamos squad on the night, Carlos revealed, “Robin Singh was rested today and is fit to start the next match. I replaced Malouda in the 2nd half as I want him to be 100% fit for the next match. Today, I wanted to use some players who haven’t played thusfar in the tournament.”

As a result of the draw against the Blasters, the Delhi Dynamos find themselves in 3rd position in the Indian Super League with 22 points. They play FC Goa in their final league match of the tournament on Sunday.
