Brazilian attacking midfielder Julio Baptista, who played for Real Madrid in the 2005-06 and 2007-08 seasons, has criticised his former club for changing managers so often and feels that it is detrimental to the club.
Rafael Benitez is the latest to find himself in the hot seat at the Santiago Bernabeu and it doesn’t get any hotter than this. Real Madrid are a club that are short on patience when it comes to managers, and just halfway through his first season, there are already rumors that Benitez will soon be sacked.
This is a mentality that former player Julio Baptista has recently criticised, saying that switching coaches is not a guarantee to success and could even be harmful for the club.
“At Madrid if in a year you gain nothing, you don’t have to change the coach,” Baptista was quoted as saying by goal.com.
“In 2015 under Carlo Ancelotti, Madrid won nothing, but the year before that they won the Champions League. Sometimes you have to put things in perspective to see if it is worth making a change. Players need stability and changing the coach is no guarantee of success”

Carlo Ancelotti getting sacked by Real Madrid did indeed raise a few eyebrows, especially after he had led them to La Decima just the previous season and further solidified his reputation as one of the best managers in the world. Baptista also added that hiring a new manager meant that the chances of success in his very first year would be slim, and that there are dynamics between the players and coach to consider that ought to be respected.
“You can hire the best in the world, but there are dynamics and if the players do not understand the coach, it is very difficult to achieve anything in the first year. I’m not saying there is a fault, but you have to look at it.”
