Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that Emmanuel Adebayor is not in his plans any longer, following a conversation he had with the striker at the end of last season
Mauricio Pochettino fielded questions over the Togolese striker in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s meeting against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, confirming that Adebayor would play no further role at Tottenham.
The Argentinian manager also insisted that he has seen an improvement in his side over the course of the opening four games, and expects to register Spurs’ first victory of the season sooner rather than later.
Adebayor not in Tottenham Hotspur’s plans
Mauricio Pochettino revealed he had a conversation with the striker at the end of last season regarding his future, but insisted he still has a good relationship with the former Arsenal FC man.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Sunderland, Pochettino is quoted by the Sunday Express as saying: “I was clear in all my times in front of you and I was very clear with him.
“We had a conversation before the end of last season and I explained my idea. I think it is clear he is not in my mind or in the plans for the future of Tottenham.
a In football it all runs quick and changes every day. The important thing is that I was clear with him. It was his decision whether to stay or not.
a So we still have a good relationship. Every time we cross in the corridor it is not a problem because I was always clear with him and he was clear with me.a
Pochettino believes Spurs are improving
Tottenham Hotspur are yet to win a game this season, with the opening day defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford being followed by three consecutive draws against Stoke City, Leicester City and Everton. However, manger Mauricio Pochettino believes his side are progressing.

“Always when Tottenham play it is important to win,” Pochettino is quoted as saying by ESPN FC. “We need to start to win the games because our performances have been good but in football it is all about the results.
“I think against Everton we competed much better than we did against Leicester and Stoke City. I think that we improve our level of focus during the game and now we need to follow in the same way. We have the quality to win the game.”
