The Arsenal FC superstar played under Jos Mourinho at Real Madrid and evidently enjoyed the experience, claiming in a recent interview that the Portuguese is a ‘special manager’ who protects his players
Jos Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea FC after failing to turn around the Blues’ nightmare season, but Arsenal FC talisman Mesut zil believes the next team he manages will be very successful.
The German international played some of the best football of his career under the Portuguese at Real Madrid, and the two seem to have genuine respect and affection for each other.
zil wishes ‘special’ Mourinho the best for the future
The Gunners’ most influential attacking player sat down for a lengthy interview with the Times that covered a range of topics, including that of Mourinho being sacked by Chelsea FC on Thursday.
zil had only good things to say about his former manager, wishing him luck for the future and claiming that the team he goes on to manage will be successful. The 27-year-old said (via . Daily Mirror): “I’m surprised by what happened with Jose. He’s a great manager. I believe that any club he goes to now he will be successful again.
“I know how special he is as a manager. He is a manager who always supports his team and always protects his team. He’s getting the best out of any player. I wish him all the best for the future, and also that he’s healthy and fine.”
Mourinho could stay in the Premier League
With Louis van Gaal reportedly on the brink of being sacked by Manchester United, there has been increased speculation about Mourinho possibly taking over at Old Trafford — a job he has been linked with in the past.
If indeed that does come about, zil would probably hope his assessment about the success of Mourinho’s next team is wrong. Although United are nine points behind league leaders Leicester City, the arrival of a new manager could shake things up, and United have the clout to make serious changes in January that could aid a potential title push.
We may not have seen the last of Jos Mourinho this season in the English Premier League just yet.
