Liverpool continued their busy summer by finalizing a deal for Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne.
The Reds signed their sixth player of the summer by acquiring the services of Nathaniel Clyne in a A?12.5m move from Southampton.
The England international signed a long-term contract at Anfield on Wednesday.
Clyne was linked strongly to the Merseysiders for a while now, so the signing didn’t particularly come as a shock but the swift manner in which the Reds did their business was impressive.
.
He told Liverpool’s official website, “I’m delighted and it’s a dream move for me to come here and play for such a big club with all of its history. I can’t wait to get started.
“As soon as Liverpool showed their interest in me, I was happy and just wanted the deal to go through.
“The gaffer has shown a lot of interest in me and this is a place where I can improve as a player, I think. It’s definitely a good opportunity to come here and try to fulfil my potential.
“I’ve played at Anfield before and know what the atmosphere is all about. It’s a great atmosphere and will make me rise to the challenge. I’m really looking forward to it and hopefully it can push me on to putting on good performances.”
It was a problematic position for Brendan Rodgers, especially after shifting to a three man back-line. The Northern Irishman used Jordan Ibe, Lazar Markovic and even Raheem Sterling in the wing-back role and naturally, the trio couldn’t do well defensively. Emre Can too was a waste in that position. Moreover, with Glen Johnson’s departure and Javier Manquillo’s uncertain Liverpool future (not to mention Jon Flanagan’s injury), the Reds needed a reliable first choice right back and Clyne would expect to feature as the first choice right back for Rodgers.
The Liverpool fans were largely happy with the acquisition of the former Crystal Palace player.
Best thing about signing Clyne is Liverpool have finally replaced with quality. Not very used to seeing that in recent years. #lfc

I’m not used to good transfer windows… I’m really good at complaining but what is it you do when you’re satisfied? ?Y? Y?? #LFC #Clyne

Clyne might not be Danilo or Carvajal but he’s a bloody brilliant pick for a club that can not offer Champions League football right now.
