Here is a transfer round-up of Liverpool stories from last week.
Terms agreed with Barcelona man?
It is no secret Liverpool need a full-back this summer. Glen Johnson is set to leave the club in the summer, Jon Flanagan is out for at least six to nine months and no one knows why Javier Manquillo was loaned in to the club in the first place.
Liverpool have been linked to Barcelona’s Martin Montoya more than once in the last eighteen months or so and links have reemerged saying the player has been contacted, and is actually keen on the move as he will get to play much more at Merseyside.
According to fichajes, Montoya has looked into Liverpoola s offer of first team football and hopes to finalise a move soon. The Spanish media reports that the Reds have had a discussion with the representatives of Barcelona defender Martin Montoya.
It seems that the player is pretty adamant about a move away from Camp Nou and Liverpool are the only club with a concrete offer on the cards. The possibility of this transfer happening seems more plausible than many others.
Brendan Rodgers wants ‘top striker’ in the summer — Depay may be sacrificed
Liverpool have been very severly linked with Memphis Depay in the previous two weeks. The reports which have emerged claiming the Reds are leading the chase etc. were not seen as normal rumors that do rounds at this point of the year, but carried more authenticity because it was the PSV sporting director making these comments. Even Tony Barrett of The Times, confirmed that Liverpool were engaged in talks with Depay last week
A move for Christian Benteke may be on the cards, but the player who has been in sensational form since Tim Sherwood took over, is unlikely to come for a cheap price. Therefore it will be interesting to see if FSG and Rodgers follow through with that deal.
It would be foolish to give up on Memphis Depay who has more than 20 goals for the Dutch champions this season. However, the urgency to land a 20-goals-a-season striker cannot be understated as well.
Leverkusen attacker Son Heung-Min scouted
Liverpool have revived their interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s South Korean attacker Son Heung-Min. The Daily Mail report: Brendan Rodgers is keen to recruit two forwards this summer and he and his scouting staff have watched South Korea international Son on several occasions over the past two seasons.
Son’s agent, Thies Bliemeister, told German newspaper Bild: ‘I know Liverpool have scouted him several times this season and would like to have him in their team.’
Son would be a terrific addition to the Liverpool side that is desperately lacking goals at the moment. The Reds won’t even have a hard time convincing Leverkusen as the club is likely to sell the player if they can land 1899 Hoffenheim’s Kevin Volland. Moreover, they have Julian Brandt within their ranks and the talented youngster can usurp Son’s place in the near future.
The South Korean can play anywhere in the attack, on the wings, as a number 10 or as a makeshift striker. However, he has mostly been operated on the left wing this season.
Brendan Rodgers likes players who are multi-functional and the Northern Irishman has made it clear that his team needs goalscorers. Son would be an ideal purchase as he fits the FSG model, is versatile and the likely sum for his services is not too much.
Cut-price move for Burnley right-back Kieran Trippier?
As mentioned before, the need to land a right-back is very high at Liverpool. Therefore expect to see a lot of right sided full backs get linked to the club.
According to the Daily Star, Liverpool are lining up a cut-price move for Burnley right-back Kieran Trippier.
Trippier has been impressive for the Clarets this season and with the possibility of Sean Dyche’s men staying in the Premier League being as unlikely as Liverpool’s quest for Champions League next season, Brendan Rodgers believes Trippier can be landed on a cut-price move.
The Reds are also linked with Danny Ings, but the U-21 England international is being targeted by several top clubs including Manchester United and Manchester City so it is uncertain if Rodgers will land the player.
