FBI agents raided the Miami offices Thursday of a television production company linked to the corruption scandal shaking FIFA, as the crisis at football’s world governing body deepened. The raid occurred as several senior FIFA officials from the past or present were among 16 more people indicted by US authorities, hours after a series of dramatic dawn raids at a luxury hotel in Zurich where top football figures were gathered. A lawyer for Imagina US said the television production company, a subsidiary of the Spanish firm Imagina, was “cooperating fully” with investigations. “There are no arrests that are going to take place today,” the lawyer, Ken Tolle, said. One of those arrested in Switzerland earlier Thursday was Alfredo Hawit, a Honduran who is president of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF). Hawit has held the position since the previous confederation chief was picked up in an earlier round of arrests in Zurich. The second person arrested in Switzerland was Juan Angel Napout, president of the South American football confederation (CONMEBOL). The FBI did not respond to requests for comment about the raid on the Imagina US offices. By AFP . |
