Manchester United have enjoyed a fine pre-season run in the United States with their recent victory over FC Barcelona on Saturday extending their run of straight victories to three matches.

Rojo and Di Maria were scheduled to arrive on Friday as United aim to open their premier league game against Tottenham Hotspur on August 8th in the strongest form possible. However the Argentine pair’s failure to do so has caused a minor headache for Van Gaal as he had wanted to use the pre-season to further implement his philosophy on the entire team.

Avoiding an unconvincing start similar to last season would be central to the Dutchmana s plans as United picked up a mere 13 points from their first 10 games in 2014.

As reported in the Daily Mail, Van Gaal was less than impressed with the pair, stating: a I have heard he (Di Maria) was not on the plane. I cannot say anything. Marcos Rojo was not on the plane, he had a passport issue but with Di Maria I don’t know whya

While Di Maria will not be fined due to his imminent move to Paris Saint-Germain, Rojo has been fined two weeks worth of wages which will certainly remind the player of his responsibilities to the team.

Rojo would also face a battle to be certain of a first-team spot, with Daley Blind impressing in the Pre-Season tour as a left sided central defender.
