Louis Van Gaal tried to sign Keylor Navas last summer, but the goalkeeper eventually signed for Real Madrid.
According to reports in Spain, Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal approached Levante to acquire the signing of Keylor Navas, only to be told that the Costa Rican had already agreed a deal to join Real Madrid.
It is reported that the Dutchman was not convinced with David De Gea and was considering to bring in a replacement in the form of Keylor Navas. The Manchester United manager was impressed by Navasa performance in the World Cup and wanted the player in his squad.
Keylor Navas went on to join Real Madrid from Levante for a fee believed to be around a 10 million. He came in to the club as a replacement for Real Madrida s last seasona s league keeper, Diego Lopez, but ended up serving as Iker Casillasa understudy. Since his arrival to Madrid, Navas has only featured six games for Real Madrid, making two appearances each in the league, Champions League and Copa Del Rey.
Interestingly, David De Gea has had a fantastic season with Manchester United so far and not surprisingly, the Spaniard is attracting interest from Real Madrid. De Gea, whose contract with United comes to an end next year, is believed to be the man Real Madrid are eyeing, to replace Casillas.
Recent reports suggest that De Gea is close to renewing his current contract with Manchester United. However, amongst the speculation that Real Madrid is interested in signing the keeper, The Daily Express reports that De Gea has asked his agent, Jorge Mendes, to secure a move to Real Madrid for the 24-year old.
It is also being suggested that De Gea has been offered a A?140,000-a-week to extend his stay at United. While it is believed that De Gea is happy with the offer, it is also suggested that the Spaniard has his heart set on a return to Spain. Sources in Spain also claim that the player does not have a good relationship with Louis van Gaal and that the pair have not spoken in months.
David De Gea has been a standout performer for Manchester United this season and it will be tough for the Red Devils to cope without the keeper. However, all reports suggest that the Spaniard will be joining Real Madrid sooner or later. If Manchester United are to lose De Gea to Real Madrid either this or the next summer, they should demand Keylor Navas in return from the Spanish giants.
