Manchester United To Pounce On Dortmund Midfielder If Contract Negotiations Fail

Manchester United are ready to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder and “contract rebel” Ilkay Gundogan if the player fails to agree a new deal to stay with the German side.

Gundogan has already rejected two offers of a new deal from the Westfalenstadion side. He is currently being handed out fresh terms, but reports in Germany suggest there is a good chance that the 24 year old rejects Die Borussen’s new advances and well and claim that Manchester United still very much remain in the race to sign him.

It was suggested that the midfielder could follow club’s prized asset, Marco Reus’s example and agree to extend his stay with the club currently struggling.

But German paper Bild have claimed that the Old Trafford outfit are still interested in bringing the player to the Premier League next season and will make a move for the 24 year old if contract negotiations fail once again.

Gundogan is out of contract at the end of next season, so it is natural for Dortmund to want to make him sign a new deal both to ensure his long term future with the club and to be assured that the player is not able to leave for free in the summer of 2016.

Jurgen Klopp’s side would obviously not want to let one of their integral players leave away for nothing. Reports claim that United are willing to pay up to A?20million for the player. Arsenal have also been linked with the German international but the links with the Red Devils have been more intense, to say the least.

Gundogan signed a four-year contract with Borussia Dortmund in 2011, as a 20 year old and has been an integral cog of the midfield engine for the club ever since. He has 65 league appearances for the side so far

Louis van Gaal has surprised a lot of people by playing Wayne Rooney in the midfield. His reluctance to field summer signing Ander Herrera in the heart of the pitch means that he is not assured of the Spaniard’s abilities and he even admitted that he wants to sign a new central midfielder in the summer. The Dutchman is a known admirer of the Geelsenkirchen-born star and United could well make a move for the 24 year old this summer.
