Manchester United Target Ilkay Gundogan Set To Stay At Borussia Dortmund: Agent

.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan may stay at the club under new coach Thomas Tuchel, according to the playera s agent.

Ilkay Gundogan to Manchester United has been a summer saga reminiscent of Wesley Sneijder’s move to the club, imminent as per various sources, yet, simply not making any progress.

It has now emerged that the player seems to have been resigned to the possibility that his wage demands may scupper any more and he would spend the final year of his contract at Borussia Dortmund before making himself available for free and thereby, in a better position to bargain for higher wages.

When asked if staying with Borussia Dortmund was an option, Gundogan’s uncle, who is also the player’s agent, Ilhan Gundogan was quoted saying: “This is clearly an option again. There are several things in favour of Ilkay finding (a way) back to his old level and doing that in a familiar, comfortable environment.”

Gundogan had been out of action for 14 months before returning from a back injury in December last year, but, the player has been subject of interest from Manchester United as well as FC Barcelona.

It was confirmed by Borussia Dortmund that the player who has only a year left to his contract will not renew his deal with the German giants with whom he had won the league in 2012.

It was reported that Manchester United will want to sign the player and saw him as a long term replacement to Michael Carrick while FC Barcelona were also keen on the player but his wage demand was too much for the club, mainly because the player had not proven he retains the same level since returning from the injury.

Indeed, a stay back at Borussia Dortmund, in familiar surroundings, putting in some good performances in a squad of players he is familiar with coupled with a good showing in Euro 2016 with Germany will mean the player will be in great position to get the wages he is looking for from the team he wishes to represent, Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona, or Manchester United.
