Manchester United Set To Place A A?40million Bid For Karim Benzema

Manchester United are interested in signing Real Madrid’s star striker Karim Benzema for A?40million.

Premier League giants Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Real Madrid’s star striker Karim Benzema in the summer. It is believed that United will place a huge bid of A?40million to acquire the Frenchman’s services in the coming season.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is likely to enhance his attack force after the team returned to Champions League. United have already released on loan striker Radamel Falcao and will not sign him on a permanent deal. Robin van Persie too was not at his best in this season. The Dutch forward remained out of action on several occasions due to injury concerns and his performance was also not up to the mark.

Karim Benzema had scored 15 goals in 27 La Liga appearances this season for Real Madrid and provided 10 assists. In comparison, Robin van Persie scored 10 goals in 27 games and managed to provide just 2 assists. Only Wayne Rooney had a decent season for the club, whose goal’s tally sums to 12 in 33 games. Also, he has 5 assists against his name.

Comparison between performances of Benzema, Van Persie and Rooney

Wayne Rooney’s versatility was tapped in by Louis van Gaal as he was positioned in the midfield in the intial stages of the season. But the failure of the other two strikers Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao forced the Dutch manager to field Rooney in the striker position in the latter part of the season.

While Van Persie’s form is deteriorating with age, the manager would likely consider buying a fresh goal scorer to improve his forward line. Karim Benzema would fit in perfectly in the squad. His arrival will give Louis van Gaal the liberty to use Wayne Rooney in several positions as and when required.
