Manchester United Offer A?60 Million For Thomas Muller, Following Clash With Pep Guardiola

Manchester United are in talks with Bayern Munich over a proposed A?60 million move for Thomas Muller, after the 25-year-old was involved in a training ground bust-up with manager Pep Guardiola, according to German website Sport1.

The Red Devils are short in the striking department, with last year’s flop loan signing Radamel Falcao having already signed for Chelsea, after the Manchester based outfit opted against exercising their right to sign the AS Monaco man. Robin Van Persie is also set to leave The Theatre of Dreams for the Dutch side Fenerbache, with a deal imminent. This leaves Louis Van Gaal with only captain Wayne Rooney and youngster James Wilson and would therefore like to strengthen the position ahead of the new season.

Following his clash with Pep Guardiola, Muller reportedly shouted: “So I can leave then, can I?”

Muller later apologized for his behavior but Manchester United feel they can pounce on this opportunity and convince the forward to join them, using the healthy relationship shared between Louis Van Gaal and Muller to their advantage.

It is understood that the Red Devils chief executive, Ed Woodward has made contact with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge of Bayern Munich to begin talks over a move for the forward, with Manchester United willing to pay as much as A?60 million for Muller and break the British transfer record once again, following the capture of Angel di Maria for A?59.7 million from Real Madrid last summer.

Last night, BBC’s gossip column had claimed that Bayern Munich were ready to offer Muller and Arjen Robben in exchange for Angel di Maria, and had quoted reliable German daily Bild as their source. However, it has been reported since that the report was farce and BBC have been prompt to remove it from their website.

Thomas Muller at one point belonged in the same bracket as Lionel Messi and Steven Gerrard as being un-signable due to their unconditional love for their respective clubs. However, the reported bust up with Pep Guardiola might have opened the slightest window, and Manchester United are ready to take their chances in bringing one of the most versatile and gifted forwards to Old Trafford.
