Manchester United – Bryan Robson Praises The Ruthless Streak Of Louie van Gaal

Former Manchester United midfielder Bryan Robson has praised the a ruthlessa streak in Louie van Gaal and likened it to that of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Manchester United have had one busy summer so far as Louie van Gaal seems desperate to reshape his squad. The Red Devils have already made some big name signings in Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, while the likes of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao were let go from Old Trafford.

.

Recently the United manager left out Victor Valdes from the squad for the preseason tour and cited that the former Barcelona goalkeepera s lack of willingness to play for the reserve, in order to gain his fitness, as the reason for his decision. While this public statement raised a lot of eyebrows, with Valdes resorting to social media to show his contempt, Bryan Robson feels that this van Gaal needed to show this ruthless streak and likened it to former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The ruthless streak of Louie van Gaal

“It’s very similar to Sir Alex Ferguson. Louis van Gaal has been very successful in his career. He has been a bit ruthless with a few of his decisions lately and that is what good managers do.

“At certain stages, managers have to make major decisions and sometimes people have to move on and the manager has got to change things the way he sees it. And that is what he is doing, that’s part of his job – you have to be ruthless at stages.

“With Valdes, it didn’t suit the manager, so he has moved him on.” a The former Manchester United midfielder said.

Schweinsteiger to have a big influence

Bryan Robson has also praised the new additions United have made to their squad, especially Bastian Schweinsteiger. He feels that the German international is the type of character he admires and the club needed at this point.

“I have always admired him. He has outstanding quality, he can be a big influence at Manchester United this year.

“I like his attitude. In the World Cup final someone made a real bad tackle on him and he got up and the next minute someone hit him in the face, he was bleeding, but he wasn’t rolling about.

“He just got up, got treatment and got on with the game. He is not just one of these players that falls down, and rolls over the place. He is a really good character so for someone like myself it’s great to see him in our squad.” a Robson added.

Manchester United are unlikely to stop at Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, and they have now been linked with the likes of Thomas Muller and Nicolas Otamendi. Expect at least one more big name signing to arrive at Old Trafford before this transfer window closes.
