Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric believes that club captain Sergio Ramos will stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, however, the 29-year-old revealed that he hadn’t asked him about it personally.
Manchester United have been linked with a move for Sergio Ramos for some time now, and had two bids rejected for him by Los Blancos, the latter in the region of A?28.6 million. However, the Spanish giants are in no mood to sell their prized asset, with manager Rafa Benitez stating, that the defender is 100% staying. Real’s pursuit of De Gea has also hit a snag, as the Red Devils are only interested in listening to any offers that involves Ramos moving to Manchester.
I think he is going to stay and hea s the best defender in the world – Modric on Ramos
It has been reported that Sergio Ramos is interested in a move to the Old Trafford, with his wife also revealing that the two have been taking English lessons for some time now. Modric, while speaking to the press in Australia, said:
a I hope Sergio stays because he is very important, hea s our captain, a leader on and off the pitch.
a Hea s happy. I think he is going to stay and hea s the best defender in the world. I dona t have to ask him to stay, he wants to, Ia m sure.a
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder also commented on new coach Rafa Benitez’s training techniques, saying that even though the players might not like tactical training, it would definitely help them on the field in tight situations.
. a We are excited for the new campaign. Wea re working very well and very hard,a he revealed.
a I think wea ll have a lot of success this season. Sometimes players dona t like tactical work but it is important on the pitch. It can help you in difficult times. I dona t have a problem with it.
a The sensations are good, we feel good. Training is fun and we like that. Wea re feeling good in these two weeks. Rafa hasna t surprised me. Ita s the first time Ia ve met him. Hopefully wea ll have a good relationship and a good season.
The 29-year-old also commented on a dismal performance by Los Blancos last season, and on his personal struggles with injuries, having suffered two serious injuries in the same year.
a Last season was tough. I had two serious injuries and want to forget it, to do my job well and undisturbed. I feel important and I will give everything for the trust the Coach gives me. I want to play at my best to help the team.
a We want to improve with every game and to show the ideas of the Coach as quickly as possible. Results arena t important in pre-season. We want to improve. If we win, thata s better. Wea re working well, twice a day, ita s hard, but thata s pre-season. Training is fun and always with the ball.
a I hope to play at the same level as before, and better. I always want to improve. I talk a lot with the Coach and want to know my position in defence and attack. Hopefully Ia m getting better.a
Has the Sergio Ramos to Manchester United ship sailed?
Real Madrid have made their stance clear, that they will not be letting go of their star defender, however, it does imply that they would need to wait another season to sign their top target of this window, David De Gea. Manchester United have been irked by the recent transfer business of Los Blancos, and as such are not in the mood to sell David De Gea, despite there being a possibility that the shot-stopper could walk away from Old Trafford on a free next season, when his contract expires.
The Red Devils are confident that De Gea cannot be convinced to sign a new deal with the club, but feel there’s a better chance of winning a silverware this season, with the 24-year-old between the sticks, than without him.
At this point of time, it looks like, no business will be done between the two mega-rich clubs, however, the transfer window is long, with more than a month left in it, what transpires in this time remains to be seen.
