FC Barcelona star Luis Suarez has defended Argentina captain Lionel Messi in the wake of recent criticism of his performances at the Copa America.
Lionel Messia s performances with Argentina have been under scanner again following the loss of Argentina to Chile in the Copa America final.
Messi was a shadow of the player who took FC Barcelona to a treble glory as the Spanish side won all the trophies they participated in thanks to some magical performances by the Argentina captain.
The final performance by Messi in Copa America saw the player coming under heavy criticism by the legendary Diego Maradona among others, who questioned if Messi was Swedish or Argentine.
Suarez to the defence
Luis Suarez, however, feels that the criticism in the direction of the FC Barcelona superstar is very harsh and has leapt to his defense.
“Ita s inconceivable to criticise the best player in the world. Wea re all human and Leo was the first to want to win the trophy,” Suarez was quoted as saying by AS.
Does Suarez have a point?
In total, Messi has 46 goals in 103 appearance for Argentina which pales in comparison to his incredible goal getting statistics with FC Barcelona.
However, with the national team, Messi does not really play as a goalscorer but more of a play maker, whereas with FC Barcelona he is more of a playmaking forward who does the damage more in the final third.
The criticism leveled at him comes by people who completely ignore the likes of Sergio Aguero, Angel Di Maria who are fine attacking players and indeed, world class for their club sides were completely non-existent in the Copa America final.
.
When you are as great as Lionel Messi, then, I guess you must bear the brunt of expectations and it does seem that Luis Suarez has a point when he says that some of the criticism at the FC Barcelona superstar is harsh.
