Louis van Gaal Wants Manchester United To “Behave Like Champions” Against Everton

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is hoping that his side can bounce back against Everton FC following the defeat against Arsenal FC that led to the manager questioning the title credentials of his side.

United had traveled to the Emirates as leaders of the Premier League. However, following a 3-0 defeat, the squad came under heavy criticism from the manager Louis van Gaal who questioned their title credentials

Van Gaal wants United to “behave like champions”

Speaking ahead of the crunch tie against Everton, the United manager hoped for a response befitting a side with title credentials.

a We are always evaluating ourselves and we cannot accept that,” Van Gaal told reporters as per the official Manchester United website.

“Not only the members of the staff, but also the players cannot accept that from each other because we want to be the champion – so you have to behave like a champion. You have to improve yourself so that in the future you can be the champion. You have to improve every time, which is what I am saying.

a I have analysed over the two weeks and that is awful when you have such a result! You cannot manage it with your players and that is what you have to do as a manager, but all your players are flying out [on international duty]. Especially the last game, because we played on Sunday, they flew out directly after the match.”

Arsenal FC defeat cannot be repeated — Van Gaal

The Gunners’ defeat saw the manager criticise the players for their meek submission to the Arsenal FC assault.

Van Gaal said that he had told the players that such a performance was unacceptable and could not be repeated.

a We have spoken about this and that it can’t happen again. That is important but it is also difficult. We started so badly and Arsenal were so good, and maybe that’s a coincidence but I don’t believe in that. I believe in preparation, in focus and in imagination. We have communicated that and spoken to a lot of players, so we have had two busy days.a

United lie in the third place in the league now, trailing leaders Manchester City by a couple of points. While they did come as the league leaders in the game last week against Arsenal FC, their poor performance means not only have they relinquished their top position, the manner of loss has also left a big question mark on the Old Trafford outfit’s title credential.

Van Gaal’s side must ensure that they get back to the form that saw them at the top of the table.
