Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has defended the errors of his new goalkeeper Sergio Romero following his team’s 2-1 loss to Swansea in the Premier League on Sunday.
Manchester United currently have 5 goalkeepers in their squad, with Sergio Romero currently the preferred choice amongst them.
However, the Manchester United stopper’s performance in the 2-1 defeat to Swansea was not up to the mark. The Argentinian’s effort (or lack thereof) in the game’s winning goal scored by Swansea’s Bafetimbi Gomis was highlighted in particular.
Van Gaal defends Romero
Defending his goalkeeper in the aftermath of the game, Van Gaal was quoted as saying by ESPN FC: “You can write everything you want.
“What I always say is defending starts in front and not only in the last line.
“You can always analyse errors but I don’t think that is a good way.
“You have to see the way the team is defending as a team and then I know what errors has been made.
“At the end, of course, the pressure for the last defender or goalkeeper is always higher.
“I don’t agree when you only say the goalkeeper was not so good.”
Neville urges van Gaal to sign a forward
Louis van Gaal was not in best of the moods and later stormed out of the press conference after he was asked questions related to the transfer market.

However, former defender Gary Neville urged the club to sign a new forward as Wayne Rooney continues to fire blanks in the league.
The Manchester United legend said (via ESPN FC): “If [Javier] Hernandez leaves, they’ve got one striker. I’m not classing Fellaini as a striker. They’ve got one striker in Wayne Rooney.
“They’ve got the goalkeeper Romero and I said before the game the jury’s out; I think today it’s even more out.”
Neville added: “From Manchester United’s point of view, they have to resolve the centre-forward and the goalkeeper [situation] in the next two days.
“Hopefully it means they keep De Gea and they sign a striker.
“I would have said, having let Jonny Evans go (to West Brom), a centre-back as well but to do three pieces in the next 48 hours I think will be nigh-on impossible.
“But I’d be absolutely staggered if there wasn’t a striker brought in. It has to happen.”
