Louis van Gaal has confirmed his plans to retire in 2017 and has promised his wife his current contract with Manchester United will be his last.
Louis van Gaal took the Manchester United job in 2014-15 season following the sacking of David Moyes from the club.
The former Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona manager had intended to retire at the age of 55, but, is adamant that despite not living up to those intentions, he will not be working when he turns 66 in August 2017.
Manchester United his final job
Stating that the United job will be his final, the charismatic manager who mentored the likes of Jose Mourinho wa quoted saying by ESPN FC: “I will give it up [in 2017]. I promised that to my wife. We have not many years together any more. That is the reason.”
“I have to admit I have said to her, when I met her and after our relationship seemed to be very good, that at 55 I shall quit. I am still working and next week I am 64.”
Premier League the final frontier for van Gaal
Louis Van Gaal has won titles in every country he has managed. He won the Dutch league with Ajax and AZ Alkmaar, Spanish league with FC Barcelona, Bundesliga with Bayern Munich besides also winning the Champions League with a very young Ajax side as well as helping Netherlands to third place at the 2014 World Cup.
The Premier League is the final frontier he wants to conquer and how Manchester United fans will be hoping he does.
” . I have done everything in my career as a manager,” Van Gaal was quoted saying by ESPN FC. “I have been in the Netherlands, my home country, in Spain, which is a fantastic league, and Germany is also a fantastic league.
“I participated in the World Cup. The only wish was the Premier League. Now I am here.”
“Do I have to go to Qatar to earn still more money? I don’t think so. You have to enjoy also your life and your relationship with your wife.”
Well, van Gaal seems to have outlined his priorities pretty clearly, you will not accept anything else from the man who has led some of the biggest names in world football to titles and managed some big egos.
