Liverpool Still In Contention For PSG Wantaway Attacker Ezequiel Lavezzi: Report

Liverpool could still land Paris Saint-Germain attacker Ezequiel Lavezzi. suggest reports.

Brendan Rodgers has clearly stated that he’s not expecting any business to happen for the Reds in this window, but the Argentine international continues to be linked with a move to the Premier League side and these links refuse to go away.

Lavezzi has been unhappy at the Parisian and La Gazzetta dello Sport reported in December that the player had turned down an offer to renew his contract and has since been told by the club that they are looking to renew their squad.

Lavezzi refused to travel to Morocco to meet up with the rest of the PSG squad for a mid-winter training retreat. And it was claimed that the player is looking for a move away from the Parisian giants and could go for a meagre A?8m, which is almost half of the A?17m PSG were demanding in the summer. Its now reported by The Independent that PSG boss Laurent Blanc is thought to be willing to let the player go for around A?14 million.

Lavezzi can play anywhere in the attack- as a forward or on the wings. A player reputed to be extremely hardworking, he tends to impress spectators with his pace and dribbling. He still has two years left in his current contract with the Parisian side. He moved to the French club in 2012, after a five year stint with Serie A side Napoli.

Liverpool received a major boost in their pursuit of the player after Napoli pulled out of the running, leaving Liverpool as the clear favourites for the Argentinea s signature. Napoli sporting director Riccardo Bigon said, a Though we love the player and his qualities, we are well stocked in the attacking department, both in terms of quantity and quality Lavezzi is not a necessity for us.a

Recently, teammate Thiago Silva said that he is gland Lavezzi decided to stay put at the club.

“I am glad he stayed,” the Brazilian told L’Equipe when asked about Lavezzi.

“He offers a lot to the dressing room, for sure, but above all else he is a true fighter a he is not Argentine for nothing!

THT Verdict- Extremely Unlikely

It seems unlikely that Liverpool would land the player in this window, or even the next. However, so many links definitely suggest some interest. Lavezzi does not fit the model of players Liverpool’s owners go for. Needless to say, if he does come in, he could prove to be very valuable with the experience he would bring in. But the likelihood of that happening is bleak to none. The Reds have plenty of attackers within their ranks and with Daniel Sturridge returning from long term absence now, the desperate need to get an attacker is not there now. Moreover, it seems more plausible that the Reds would go for Burnley’s Danny Ings.
