As if one summer of Marco Reus and Liverpool wasn’t enough, the player has once again found himself linked to the Merseyside club.
The attacking midfielder has gone through an undeniably challenging phase of his career. He missed out on the World Cup through an unfortunate injury sustained during a friendly, he got injured mid-season, his side had an extremely underwhelming campaign and then there is of course, the uncertainty regarding his future at Borussia Dortmund.
Every top European club has been linked with the midfielder in the last one year, but it has certainly been Liverpool, who have found themselves rumored to be in on him the longest. It began when Suarez departed for Barcelona and Liverpool fans began hoping that the German international is the marquee player Rodgers brought in to replace the Uruguayan. That wasn’t the case but it might be that Reus heads to Anfield this season, this time as a replacement for Raheem Sterling, if reports from TalkSport are to be believed. They claim that the player is not interested in a move to Barcelona as along with him having to wait for six months to feature for the Catalan giants, he is unsure of how much playing time he will get at Camp Nou. Thus, teams who have been linked with him (including Chelsea and Arsenal) have received a “boost” in their pursuit of the player.

Sterling’s future at Liverpool remains a big doubt and the player looks like he is determined to leave the club to join Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City. Reus is among a few names to be tagged as “Sterling’s potential replacement”.
The comparison above (via Squawka) shows that if it were indeed the case, Reus could ensure Sterling’s loss is not felt. The German betters the Englishman in every department (per 90) and there is no doubt that Reus will be a tremendous buy for the Reds, who have made some impressive signings so far – including Hoffenheim’s Roberto Firmino – in their bid to get back to the top 4 next season. However, the player just signed a new contract at the German club last season and could be interested to work under new manager Thomas Tuchel and help his present side get back to the top level next season. Moreover, Liverpool did get Roberto Firmino and there is a greater need for a quality striker at the moment as Firmino, despite what the reports say, could himself be the Sterling replacement media outlets have been crying out for.
