Liverpool FC Team News – Gerrard Set To Return For Reds Against Queens Park Rangers

Steven Gerrard - Liverpool captain

Steven Gerrard has been given the green light by boss Brendan Rodgers to face Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon.

The manager confirmed in his pre-match press conferrence that Club captain Steven Gerrard was available for the visit of Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

“The Saturday-Tuesday game was always going to be difficult, but certainly having had a good week’s preparation, he’ll be fit and flying for the weekend,” said the boss.

“He’s just approaching every game and giving his maximum; his concentration has never waned, he has been really focused on helping the team. It will be exactly the same tomorrow.”

The Manager also confirmed the availibility of Brazilian midfielder Lucas, though neither Mario Balotelli nor Mamadou Sakho can be called upon.

Rodgers was asked about Striker Daniel Sturridge’s plan to receive treatment in the United States, the manager said: “We have found some underlying issues that maybe relate to Dan’s issues and problems that he’s had this season, and the ongoing problems that he’s had.”

“The staff and medical team here are liaising with some of the great medics in America and we’re just doing everything we possibly can to give Daniel the opportunity to remain fit and consistent and available.

“We’ll see how it goes between now and the end of the season, but it was something that we decided was going to be best for him to give him every chance to be consistently fit.

“Daniel is like every other player – he wants to play and wants to be available.”

Brendan Rodgers also confirmed that young defender Jon Flanagan is set to undergo knee operation and will be expected to be out for six to nine months.

Rodgers explained:”Jon is a really strong character. He trained for a few days last week and looked absolutely brilliant.

“I was asking the medics if it was something that he definitely needed. But for him and his career, he definitely needed the operation and now he’s had that and it will be over the course of the next six to nine months now.

“Hopefully we can get him back fit and stronger than ever because he’s a really, really important player for us.”

On left-back Alberto Moreno, he added: “We’ll see after today, but he should be OK.”

Probable Starting Line-Up(4-2-3-1):Mignolet; Can, Skrtel, Lovren, Johnson; Allen, Gerrard; Coutinho, Henderson, Markovic; Sterling.
