Liverpool FC extended the contracts of defenders Andre Wisdom and Kolo Toure.
With their expected to be a number of departures from the club this summer, Liverpool are ensuring they make the players they want next season sign new contracts. Philippe Coutinho, Jordan Henderson, Daniel Sturridge, Jordan Ibe and Jon Flanagan have signed an extension with the club and Martin Skrtel is expected to soon. Liverpool wanted to tie Raheem Sterling to a new contract as well but the 20 year-old has made it clear he doesn’t wish to stay on with the club.
The Merseysiders have given experienced Kolo Toure a contract extension. Liverpool are losing Steven Gerrard, and Glen Johnson on a free this summer which means that more than anything, a chunk of experience is going away. The club squad is a very young one and its naturally important to have some men with valuable experience and leadership quality in the squad. Toure, a Premier League winner with Arsenal, naturally offers that and his contribution is being valued by the club who have decided to offer him an extension.
He said: a Liverpool is a great club for me to stay at. Liverpool is going to be massive. I love Premier League football and I played all my years here. And if I can finish here it would be great.”
On the other side, Liverpool have also made 22 year-old Andre Wisdom sign a new long term contract which expires in 2019. The English defender spent the last season on loan at West Brom where he made 24 EPL appearances for the Baggies.
Wisdom has made 22 first-team appearances for Liverpool. He was handed his debut by Brendan Rodgers in a Europa League tie against Young Boys in September 2012.
