Liverpool FC have agreed a deal to sign striker Danny Ings from Burnley on July 1 after his contract expires, subject to a medical.
Liverpool FC confirmed in a statement on their website of the acquisition of the 22 year old forward subject to a medical.
Burnley are entitled to a compensation despite the player being out of contract as a result of the forward being under 24 years of age. The fee is not yet agreed between the Liverpool FC and Burnley and will be decided by a tribunal should the clubs fail to agree a fee.
Burnley said in an official statement: “We have rejected an offer made by Liverpool, but will continue to have dialogue with the club in order to reach a resolution over the fee.”
Ings has scored 11 goals in the Premier League this season but could not prevent the club from being relegated.
He is a member of the current England U21 squad that is due to take part in the European Under 21 championship later this month and becomes the second summer signing at Anfield after James Milner joined from Manchester City last week.
When compared to other Liverpool targets and Daniel Sturridge’s 13-14 season in which the forward was in sensational form for Liverpool FC, Ings statistic shows interesting reading for 14-15 season.
Known for being quick and playing on the shoulders of the last defender, Ings is good on the ball, too, with a 50.89% rate of successfully taking on players. That is impressive given how good Sturridge appeared on the ball last season for Liverpool FC. Vietto labeled the ‘next Aguero’ is behind him in that attribute.
His 0.12 assists per 90 minutes is also not bad at all and is better than both, Benteke and Vietto, despite chance creation being the worst of the four players. But then, it has to be taken into account he was playing for Burnley, a side that struggled throughout the season and a 22 year old can only do so much, himself.
.
Aerial duels are clearly not his area of strength and Benteke, a beast, clearly has an edge over everyone else. The 43% shot accuracy is something he can improve in the future as composure in front of goal is only going to get higher with age one would think.
Overall, Ings is a signing that will suit the system at Liverpool FC and with his ability to work hard, run with the ball at pace, he will be a good acquisition on a minimum fee. The fact that he is still very young and only going to improve is an added bonus.
