Liverpool FC Linked With Former Target Gonzalo Higuain- Finally A Move On The Cards?

Liverpool have once again been linked with a move for Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain.

The Reds have been reported to be monitoring the Argentinian’s contract situation with the Italian club, according to Goal.com

Higuain has been linked with various moves away from Napoli and several times, the link has been Liverpool itself. According to reports, the Merseysiders are ready to swoop if the player fails to commit his future with the club.

And while Higuain is keen to stay at the club, a summer move could be on the cards if Napoli don’t get him to sign a new contract. Goal.com report: The Partenopei are willing to up the Argentine’s basic salary and extend his current deal, which runs until 2018, by a further year. However, while Higuain and his camp have publicly maintained that he is happy at the San Paolo, it is believed that a summer move would be welcomed.

The striker’s father, who is also his agent, is believed to be sitting down with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis and sporting director Riccardo Bigon in the coming weeks to discuss a contract extension. But with key games in the Serie A, the Europa League and the Coppa Italia, talks are supposed to be on a stand-still at the moment.

Liverpool will face plenty of competition for his signature as Roma, Juventus and Barcelona are also said to be interested in the player’s services.

The Reds were also linked with the player in the January transfer window which prompted his brother to clarify that the player was happy at the Naples club.

He told Italian radio station Crc, a Do Liverpool want Higuain? I dona t speak English, just Italian, French and Spanish. I havena t spoken to any club, firstly because they havena t called me and secondly because it would be disrespectful to Napoli, it wouldna t be fair.

a [Napoli President Aurelio] De Laurentiis is a great person, a man of honour and I couldna t behave incorrectly. Wea re not thinking about leaving Napoli.a Ia m confident that the team can make third place [and qualify for the Champions League], then wea ll see about Gonzaloa s future.a I havena t spoken with any team, Gonzalo is calm, he has a contract with Napoli and hea s not planning to leave because hea s happy. We have to fight for third place.a
It is likely that these reports are unsubstantial and Liverpool have been vaguely linked with Higuain too many times for the Reds fans to get excited this time. Moreover, due to the parties interested in him, if Napoli get him to sign a new contract just to increase his release clause, he could cost the Reds a lot more than they would like to pay. Moreover, he is 27 years old and doesn’t fit FSG’s policy. But Brendan Rodgers has spoken time and again this season that the Liverpool management needs to go for ready-made players as well and interest in Higuain could well suggest that. If Liverpool do get the player, it is almost certain that three of, if not all four of, Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini and Iago Aspas will be out of the club in the summer. But for now, chances look extremely weak and this report seems like just an everyday rumor.
