Liverpool FC defender Mahamadou Sakho has been offered a new deal to stay at the club, as per reports in the Liverpool Echo. Reds fans are perplexed as to why a 100k GBP per week deal is offered to a player, who has recently been left out of the first team plans of manager Brendan Rodgers.

The France international’s future has been the subject of speculation after he was overlooked by Brendan Rodgers for Liverpool FC’s opening two Premier League matches against Stoke City and Bournemouth.

His absence was attributed to the fact that he missed three days of training in the build up to the Stoke game after the birth of his second child.

Sakho did go on to play in a behind-closed-doors friendly following the Stoke game which was held with a view to give a run out to the players lacking in fitness.

However, the player was not even a part of the squad for the home game against Bournemouth a week later.

Liverpool have reportedly rejected interest from Roma over the past week and have made it clear they have no intention of selling the 25-year-old centre-back. The defender’s current deal runs until 2017 and he will be offered a new five-year contract on improved terms as per Liverpool Echo. The offer has surprised fans with the player offered a bumper 100k GBP per week contract, a 25k GBP a week improvement on his previous 75k GBP per week deal. The Liverpool FC fans had interesting reactions on Twitter to the unexpected news.
