Liverpool FC defender Mahamadou Sakho has been offered a new deal to stay at the club, as per reports in the Liverpool Echo. Reds fans are perplexed as to why a 100k GBP per week deal is offered to a player, who has recently been left out of the first team plans of manager Brendan Rodgers.
The France international’s future has been the subject of speculation after he was overlooked by Brendan Rodgers for Liverpool FC’s opening two Premier League matches against Stoke City and Bournemouth.
His absence was attributed to the fact that he missed three days of training in the build up to the Stoke game after the birth of his second child.
Sakho did go on to play in a behind-closed-doors friendly following the Stoke game which was held with a view to give a run out to the players lacking in fitness.
However, the player was not even a part of the squad for the home game against Bournemouth a week later.
Good news for Mamadou Sakho who’s been offered a new long term contract by Liverpool despite currently being out of the team.

Liverpool have reportedly rejected interest from Roma over the past week and have made it clear they have no intention of selling the 25-year-old centre-back. The defender’s current deal runs until 2017 and he will be offered a new five-year contract on improved terms as per Liverpool Echo. The offer has surprised fans with the player offered a bumper 100k GBP per week contract, a 25k GBP a week improvement on his previous 75k GBP per week deal. The Liverpool FC fans had interesting reactions on Twitter to the unexpected news.
Only question tho, if Sakho is set to be offered a new deal, Liverpool and Rodgers must see something in him, right? Why not play him? a Connor (@ConnorwilsonLFC) August 20, 2015
Leaving Sakho out of squads that include Lovren and Toure while offering him a long-term contract isn’t a mixed signal, it’s a cry for help.

I hope Liverpool have offered Sakho more playing time in that new five year contract, or else there’s no way he’s signing it. a Josh (@joshtheatkins) August 20, 2015
Two years left on Sakho’s contract but they want to offer him a new 5 year one and pay him 100k a week. They must rate him!

I rate Sakho, higher than Lovren and Skrtel, however he is very injury prone and he himself does make mistakes.

Time for Sakho to show he has the attitude to match. Club clearly rates him and Lovren & Skrtel are hardly undroppable, Skrtel more so IMO

Those that are ok with Sakho leaving because “he wants to play as he’s in France team” as long as we recruit a replacement. Happy to be sub?

If Mamadou Sakho’s ‘paternity leave’ was to last any longer, it’d be in danger of exceeding his wife’s maternity leave.

I don’t understand the Sakho situation one bit
