While it was a quiet day for Liverpool FC as far as incoming transfers were concerned, same could not be said about their outgoing ones. Tiago Ilori’s loan move to Aston Villa with an option to buy for the English side sent shockwaves across the Liverpool FC fanbase, who expect big things from the Portuguese youngster.
Liverpool Echo confirmed that Liverpool FC have loaned out Ilori to Aston Villa with an option to buy between A?6m and A?9m depending on the appearances he makes.
Tiago Ilori loan move from #LFC to Villa confirmed. A?1m loan fee and Villa can buy him next summer for A?6m to A?9m depending on appearances

The news came as a surprise to the fans, who had seen Ilori being hailed for his performances in the European Under 21 Championship after having signed for A?7m from Sporting Lisbon.
However, the player was shipped off for a A?1m loan fee with an option to buy, clearly indicating that his future at Anfield was up in the air.
Unsurprisingly, the fans were not too pleased and took to twitter to express their opinions.
Ilori’s imminent departure means 13 of the 24 players Liverpool signed from 2012-14 have either left the club permanently or are on loan.

Ilori was one of the best players at the Euro U21 tournament. If we didn’t already own him, we’d probably tried to have signed him.

A?7m for a player who is yet to make a single PL appearance is quite shocking even for us. #Ilori

A?7m for Ilori, he gets shifted out on loan twice..doesn’t play a single minute for 1st team & Villa can buy him next year. Baffling. #lfc

Under Rodgers Liverpool have spent an embarrassing amount of money on players given few chances and/or not played in their natural position.

Seven million quid, two years, three times an unused sub and it looks like that is that for Tiago Ilori at #LFC pic.twitter.com/9DMKkUfAHR

Markovic will be like Ilori. Go on loan for a couple of seasons before being sold back to Benfica for A?5m. What’s the point of signing them.

If Andre Wisdom still has a future at the club, and a new contract to go with it, not sure why Illori, a 2015 U-21 Euro finalist wouldn’t.

Firm conjecture & speculation that Rodgers is severing ties with all committee signings. The case for that is strong, after the Ilori deal.

Can only imagine that the scouts and others weren’t impressed with Ilori whilst onloan last season and thought he wasn’t suited. Anyway.
