Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has revealed that yesterday’s win over Tottenham can propel them to greater heights this season.

Lallana came on towards the end and helped his side clinch the three points after his pass found Mario Balotelli who made no mistake in converting the chance. Although the Merseysiders remain in 7th place, the win took Liverpool to 42 points and closer to a Champions League spot.

Lallana said, “That’s a massive three points for us.

a We’re only one point behind Tottenham now and we have got everything to play for.”

Lallana was in confident mood after the win and also added that his side can aim better than the fourth place which is the last Champions League spot, a We can go higher than fourth, we can hit third place. We’ve got Daniel Sturridge back now and it was great for him to get through 70 minutes.

a I was itching to get on tonight. It was a great game and a great atmosphere and against my old gaffer (Maurico Pochettino) who I have a lot of respect for.

a It was end to end and at times it could have gone either way. It was nice to get on the pitch and contribute to the result.

The win was important and it felt even better for the Liverpudlians when summer signing Mario Balotelli finally opened his account for Liverpool in the Premier League this season. His 83rd-minute goal turned out to be the match-winner for Liverpool and Lallana was pleased with his teammate’s effort, a I’m pleased for Mario and that goal will be great for him. He needs to keep working hard. If he does that and keeps putting the effort in then the goals will come.a

a People were questioning the new signings at the beginning of the season but not for one minute was I questioning them.

a It was always going to take a little bit of time as they’re young players. Now they’ve settled in we’re starting to see the rewards,a he added.

Liverpool’s next tie is a fifth round FA Cup fixture against Crystal Palace. The Reds don’t have a good record at Selhurst Park off-late and this season’s 3-1 defeat was probably their worst of the campaign. However, Liverpool are in a good run at the moment and will feel that they have a good chance of making it to the next round.

a It’s a massive game,a Lallana said.

a We got taught a lesson by Palace earlier in the season. We owe them one.a
