Steven Gerrard has warned Raheem Sterling that he risks stalling his growth by moving elsewhere as the England international continues to show no interest in signing a new contract with Liverpool FC.
Liverpool FC legend Steven Gerrard has warned Raheem Sterling that he risks becoming “a squad player” if he leaves Liverpool FC.
Raheem Sterling has refused to sign a new contract with Liverpool FC, famously giving an interview to BBC stating that he wanted to win more trophies by moving to a more competitive club despite Liverpool in contention to win the FA Cup at the time.
While Raheem Sterling has been a regular starter for Liverpool FC under Brendan Rodgers, Steven Gerrard insisted that it was something that will not be a case should he decide to move.
“I hope he stays. I think, for his development as a player, he has a fantastic manager to look after him and a great set of team-mates. I think it’s important he plays week in, week out and keeps trying to learn and strive to become a world-class player.”
“The frustrating thing for me would be if he went to a club and became a squad player and just another number and he didn’t have that chance to progress. That’s the risk. What will be frustrating for me is if he does that.”
Raheem Sterling has been linked with moves to Manchester City and Manchester United, with Arsenal FC also thought to be keeping tabs on the development of his contract saga.
