Jose Enrique Wants To Fight For His Place At Liverpool FC Despite Being Alienated By Brendan Rodgers

Liverpool FC defender Jose Enrique has vowed to stay and fight for his future at the club and is convinced he will be given the opportunity to play by manager Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool FC played with teenager Joe Gomez at left-back at Stoke and kept a clean sheet on their opening day win.

Enrique is into the final year of his contract at Liverpool FC and will have to fight off competition from the teenage English defender Gomez and Spanish wingback Alberto Moreno for a place in the Liverpool XI.

Enrique willing to fight for his place

However, Enrique is willing to stay at the club and fight for his place citing the lack of experienced options in his position as the reason he may eventually get a chance.

a I’m in a difficult position,a Enrique was quoted saying to Liverpool Echo. a The club have alienated Balotelli, Borini and me.

a I have a year left on my contract and I imagine the club will want to sell, but I still want to stay and fight as I always have.

a But if a good offer came (elsewhere) with more years of contract and more chance to play, I’d look at it.

a I will not give up. I know from experience that football changes from day to night.

a I feel fine after two years with knee discomfort. Plus in the squad here we only have one pure left-back (Alberto Moreno) and I know that if I stay I’ll play. I want to prove that some are wrong.”

. Move away from Anfield a step down for Enrique

Jose Enrique hasn’t featured for Liverpool FC since January, having played only 9 games for the club last season. The Spaniard, however, admitted that a move away from Liverpool FC will be a step down for his career.

a What I think is that I will not play in a team better than this,a he said. a Liverpool are a match for Manchester United.

a It is true we haven’t won the league for many years, but we must not forget that we have won five European Cups.

a I had a very good option to return to Spain, but is complicated because the economy is very different from what exists here.

a The only teams that can deal with what is paid in England are Real Madrid and Barcelona, so I would love to stay here until my legs stop me.a

Do Liverpool FC need Enrique?

Given the solid performance of Joe Gomez in the Stoke game and Alberto Moreno waiting in the wings to fight for his place in the starting XI, one wonders if the ageing Jose Enrique will get his chance at all.

Liverpool FC certainly do not need him with those two in the squad and given the fact that Enrique himself was injured throughout the last season and Liverpool FC went about just fine without him erases any doubt that the defender is surplus to the requirement at Anfield.
