Jordan Henderson will soon be confirmed as Liverpool‘s new permanent captain.

Jordan Henderson’s appointment as Liverpool’s new permanent captain is expected to be announced tomorrow. The 25 year-old was chosen as the club’s vice-captain last season after Daniel Agger was shipped off. Henderson has been the clear favourite to take over the captaincy since January when Gerrard announced he was leaving the club.

Henderson has a mercurial task ahead of him, but the midfielder, who decided to fight for his career instead of be used as bait to land Clint Dempsey from Fulham three years ago, has shown that he has the character and mindset to do the same.

Hendersona s credentials as a potential leader were seen last season as the midfielder took over the reigns in the absence of Steven Gerrard who was out with injury for a while. There was a moment with Diego Costa in the Capital One Cup semi-final that particularly caught they eye.

The player was also one of Liverpool’s best performers in a mediocre season and got 7 goals and 9 assists for the side in all competitions.

.

Interestingly, no player has registered more assists from open play in the Premier League since the start of 2013/14 season than Henderson, who had 15 in the time being (via Whoscored.com)

Meanwhile, this will also mean a new vice-captain is announced soon, if not simultaneously. Mamadou Sakho, James Milner, Lucas Leiva and Martin Skrtel are the likely choices for the role.
