Kerala Blasters FC seem to have commenced on their road to recovery, as after stopping their four-match winning streak, with a 1-1 draw against Chennaiyi FC, they have roped in former Manchester City defender Terry Phelan, as their new manager, for the rest of the season.
The previous manager Peter Taylor had parted ways with the Indian Super League (ISL) franchise after a run of five winless matches, out of which they had lost four. Assistant coach Trevor Morgan had taken over as the caretaker manager for one match, which they drew 1-1 against Chennaiyin FC.
Kerala Blasters FC, who are looking to make their way back up the ISL table, into the top-four spots, made the announcement on their twitter account, on Sunday.

This is Phelan’s first stint as the manager of a football team, and it would be interesting to see if the Irishman can turn things around at the Kochi-based side.
Phelan has played 42 internationals for the Republic of Ireland, and also calls Premier League clubs like Swansea City, Manchester City, Chelsea FC, Everton FC, Crystal Palace, and Fulham, his old stomping grounds.
Tough task ahead for Phelan
Kerala Blasters FC’s newest manager Phelan however, would have his work cut out in front of him, as he takes over the bottom club, that has not won a single match since their first game of the season, against the then floundering North East United FC.
With seven more matches to go, in the league stage of the tournament, Kerala Blasters are five points adrift of the semi final playoff spots, a task that many may say, is not yet out of the reach of last year’s runners up.
