FC Pune City suffered their first loss of the season as they sunk to a 2-1 loss against Delhi Dynamos FC, but head coach David Platt believes many positives have come out from the defeat.
David Platt chose to look on the bright side of things after his men fell to a defeat against the capital side, and the Englishmen thinks his team played better than they did in the last game.
The 49-year old insisted in the post match press conference, ” Ironically, I’m happier with our performance today, than I was in the last game and although we won that game, and lost today, we played better in this game.”
“Rather than actually dwelling on what went wrong, I’d look at the way we played, the way we pressed and took the game to the opposition.”
“I think set pieces play a major part and I’ll have to see the video again but he (Robin Singh) had a free header at the back post and we can’t let that happen”.
“The disappointing thing was that we conceded from a set piece, but we didn’t have a goal created against us which is a positive.”
.
With games coming thick and fast, Platt believes they don’t really have time to dwell on the result, and have to focus on the next game. “The second goal I’m not too worried about. We were throwing players forward and we took a risk chasing the equaliser, so the last two minutes don’t exist really. We condeded a goal and then scored one but Delhi had already gotten their second.”
“Did we have enough chances to win the game, probably yes. So as I said, there are positives to take from this game and we don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves. We’ll be back on the training pitch tomorrow morning, preparing for our next game.”
FC Pune City made several changes to their side which beat Northeast United FC, with Zakora, Tuncay and Mutu, all being dropped to the bench. Platt probably has an eye on the visit of Atletico de Kolkata in two day’s time. That game should be a cracker, as both teams would want to go top with a victory.
