Iker Casillas Close To Real Madrid Exit: Report

Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas will reportedly leave the club this summer making way for the arrival of David De Gea from Manchester United.

Real Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for Manchester United stopper David De Gea . . De Gea is most likely to join the Spanish giants as his contract with Manchester United has only one more year left on it and the Spaniard is in no mood to negotiate a new contract. The arrival of the United no. 1 will most certainly affect two playersa Real Madrid future a Iker Casillas and Keylor Navas.

However, it seems like Casillas, 34, has made Real Madrida s job easier by agreeing to make an exit from his boyhood club. According to reports in Spain, Casillas will leave this summer as Real Madrid try their best to convince Manchester United into letting De Gea go as soon as possible. It is believed that Casillas does not want to pose a problem for the club as his legendary status helped him regain the first-team spot he had once lost to Diego Lopez.

Spanish State television RTVE journalist David Alonso, speaking on SER Deportivos, revealed the Real Madrid goalkeepera s intention: a Casillas is closer to leaving than to staying.a

It is believed that Casillas has a lot of offers from various clubs across Europe. However, despite the awaited arrival of De Gea and the high probability of losing his first-team spot in the team, Casillas has always maintained that he would like to finish his career in Madrid. The 2010 World Cup winner has a contract with the club till 2017 and if he does not wish to move, Real Madrid may not be keen on forcing him out by paying him his contract dues.

While it is true that Casillas leaving the club will benefit all parties, it seems highly unlikely that the captain will leave in such an uncelebrated manner. The keeper has spent his entire career at Real Madrid helping the club achieve tremendous success. Once considered to be one of the finest keepers in the world, Casillas is sure to have a say when it comes to his departure from the club. It is unlikely that the keeper will leave this summer, but he might well be forced to serve as a second-choice if and when De Gea joins Los Blancos.
