“I want to make history at Napoli like Maradona did”, says Higuain

Gonzalo Higuain has claimed that he is happy at Napoli and eager to win titles with them just like club legend Diego Maradona did.

The 27-year-old has already scored 17 goals so far this season helping his side into the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia as well as the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Napoli won the Italian Super Cup at the expense of Juventus at the back end of last year in a match in which Higuain netted a brace before his side prevailed in a penalty shootout, and he is gunning for further glory with the Partenopei similar to what his compatriot Maradona achieved.

Speaking during Rai Sport’s show Dribbling, he said, a We are in a good run of form at the moment and to continue like this, we cannot rest on our laurels.a

a We are all working hard and have improved off late. We have already won the Supercoppa Italiana and are still in the running for three other titles.”

Serie A glory is a perhaps distant dream because the dominant Bianconeri lie 14 points ahead of Rafael Benitez’s men in third. Higuain though vowed to fight till the very end for the supporters that treat him like one of their own.

a As long as there is the possibility, we will continue to fight in all three competitions. Ia m very happy at Napoli because they feel a lot of affection for Argentineans thanks to Maradona.”

a It will be hard to follow in his footsteps and do what he did here, but I have come here to make history and win titles. This is the mentality that we all have.”

The former Real Madrid striker has been the subject of heavy interest from Premier League clubs such as Liverpool despite his insistence that he’s happy at Naples. Higuain arrived last summer in a deal worth A?34.5 million, the highest amount Napoli have ever paid for a player.
