Liverpool FC officially unveiled Adam Bogdan, who has joined the club on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers.
The 27 year-old has joined the Reds on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers, where he spent eight years.
He has played over 100 matches for the side, where he moved in 2007 as a 19 year old after the English club acquired his services from Vasas Budapest.
Liverpool had to address the goalkeeper situation as Brad Jones was not offered a contract extension. The Reds had huge goalkeeping problems at the start of the season with Simon Mignolet doing awfully in between the sticks, but after being dropped out of the team, the Belgian returned a new keeper. He did incredibly well and went on to even compete for the Premier League “Golden Glove” right till the end. He saved a penalty against Wayne Rooney in a 2-1 home loss to Manchester United but one of his best displays was against Chelsea in the League Cup semi-final.
After Mignolet turned his career around at the club, the Reds evidently thought that they didn’t need an upgrade on Mignolet but on Brad Jones, who didn’t prove to be a worthy second option. Adam Bogdan was then snapped up on a free transfer from Bolton. Incidentally, Bogdan played very well against Liverpool in the FA Cup and kept a clean sheet at Anfield, ensuring a replay of the tie took place at the Macron Stadium.
Liverpool’s new signing had plenty to say in his first official interview with Liverpool’s official website.
He said that he was going to fight Simon Mignolet hard for a first team spot and would prove himself in training.
He said, . “I think it’s a massive challenge. I know him (Mignolet) as a ‘keeper, I’ve been watching him and we are a very similar age. I respect him as a ‘keeper. I haven’t had a chance to meet him yet, but I’m sure we’re going to get along very well and we’re going to have a good relationship. We’re going to compete, of course, that’s the nature of this position and the sport. But I’m sure we’re going to help each other as well; I have always been very close to the ‘keepers I have worked with. It’s going to be a big challenge but at the same time we are going to help each other as well.
“Of course, I would like to take this opportunity and play as many games as I possibly can, and be a No.1 ‘keeper for Liverpool. How do I do that? I have to do it on the training ground first of all, I have to prove myself and prove to the manager that I’m able to do that. Then when I get the chance, I have to take it and play well. That’s how it works.”
When asked what he thought his strongest attributes were, Bogdan replied, “I would say the ability to learn, I think without that I would never be here. I like to think I command the area, and I like to come out and leave my area. But I wouldn’t like to say too much about it in case a striker listens!”
