Harry Rednapp quits QPR job

With a knee surgery looming large, ex-Tottenham and West Ham manager Harry Rednapp has decided resign from the Queens Park Rangers job. Rednapp feels that he hasna t been able to give his 100 percent to the job and believes that it isna t fair to the fans or the owner.

At QPR since 2012-13, Rednapp enjoyed a mixture of highs and lows at the club, getting relegated in his debut season, and then winning a promotion back to the Premier League, courtesy of a playoff win.

The return to the top division, however, hasna t been as smooth as he may have hoped. QPR have been very good at home, especially for a team that has just won a promotion, but away from home the club has struggled immensely. In fact, in the 11 away games, QPR have failed to register a single win or a draw, and lie 19th in the table at the moment.

A statement from Tony Fernandes read: a I would like to take this opportunity to thank Harry for everything he has done for QPR during his time in charge.

a We part on good terms and I would personally like to wish him all the best for the future.a

Redknapp added: a I have had such a fantastic time at QPR. I would like to thank the Board, the players and all my staff, and especially the supporters who have been absolutely fantastic to me since I arrived at the club for their tremendous support.

a Sadly, I need immediate surgery on my knee which is going to stop me from doing my job in the coming weeks. It means I wona t be able to be out on the training pitch every day, and if I cana t give 100 percent, I feel ita s better for someone else to take over the reins.

a My relationship with Tony Fernandes has been one of the highlights of my footballing career and I wish the club every success. I am confident they will survive in the Premier League this year.a

In fact, Rednappa s position at the club wasna t exactly safe and there were multiple reports that suggested that Rednapp, who is one of the longest serving English managers of all time, may not be around for long and that Fernanders was on the lookout for a replacement for a while.

Names such as Tim Sherwood, Glen Hoddle, Steve McClaren and Rafa Benitez have been mentioned, but ita s only day one and it may be weeks before a manager is appointed.
