Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has got a serious blasting from former player Andrei Kanchelskis.
The Red Devils came back to winning ways against QPR as they beat Harry Redknapp’s side 2-0 and bounced back from their 1-0 reverse at home to Southampton. United are in the top four, but are only one point above Arsenal who are in the fifth place following their 2-0 win away to Manchester City yesterday. Despite the 2-0 win over QPR, Louis van Gaal invited a lot of criticism for his insistence to play the 3-5-2, use Angel di Maria as a forward and have Jones take corners. United didn’t look comfortable in the first half. Fellaini came off the bench and got them the goal they needed so badly in the second half. Young Wilson doubled their lead in stoppage time.
Kanchelskis, a former Double winner during his spell at Old Trafford, was left demoralised following the Saints defeat and claims United won’t win the title with Van Gaal’s current philosophy. The former United winger witnessed the defeat to Southampton at Old Trafford in the company of Sir Alex Ferguson. He admitted that both him and Ferguson left Old Trafford gutted and upset.
“With Louis van Gaal in charge they will not become champions for another ten years,” Kanchelskis told a Russian paper.
“I don’t understand the type of football he is instilling into his players.
“I don’t fancy their chances with him in charge – they aren’t going to compete with Chelsea and Manchester City.
“They looked awful. Seventy-five thousand people came to the stadium to watch but they were an embarrassment. I felt sorry for the fans.
“He may be able to solve some of the problems by changing his personnel but on the whole I don’t fancy my old team’s prospects with him in charge.
“United’s players from 1993 – the likes of Paul Ince, Eric Cantona, Paul Scholes, Peter Schmeichel, Ryan Giggs – would be tearing their hair out.”
