Ex-Manchester United Player Reveals That Van Gaal Didn’t Let Him Enjoy Football

Rafael, one of the many players who were shipped out of Old Trafford upon the arrival of Louis Van Gaal, has spoken out about his time under the Dutch manager and transfer from Manchester United.

Rafael da Silva, who currently plays at Olympique Lyon, spent eight years at Manchester United before being sold to the French club in 2014 for an undisclosed fee. He recently opened up about his transfer from the club where he made it big, his training under Louis van Gaal and the Red Devils chances of glory this season.

“To be honest I didna t really enjoy to play when Van Gaal was there. Everyone is different. Results matter so if they can win the league it will be a different story.”, he said, according to Manchester Evening News.

“I like to enjoy myself, to try things and do stuff. Last year I wasna t doing that. I watch them play and Ia ve heard some things as well, but ita s hard. Football is for the fans. They want to see good football.”

.

Rafael also stated that though he had opportunities to play in the Premier League, he preferred to go for a new challenge. “I had some choices to go in England, but in the end I wanted to try something different. Ita s good to challenge yourself.

Van Gaal’s decisions come back to haunt him

Rafael was one of many popular figures who were sold to other clubs by Louis Van Gaal, the list includes the likes of Robin van Persie, Javier Hernandez, Johnny Evans and Nani.
But it now looks like van Gaal’s decisions are coming back to haunt him as he is being forced to play inexperienced youngsters in crucial matches. This has been a contributing factor to the fact that Manchester United are no longer in the Champions League and are not playing up to the mark in the Premier League either.
