Emre Can: I Joined Liverpool For Trophies, Not Just Football

Liverpool FC midfielder Emre Can insisted he didn’t join the Reds just for regular game time, but wants to win silverware with the club.

Liverpool obviously endured an underwhelming season last time out. Plenty was to be blamed and there were far too many drawbacks from the season. But if the Reds can find one big plus from it, it will have to be the signing of Emre Can.

The youngster joined from Bayer Leverkusen (there was some tussle with Bayern Munich as the Bavarians wanted to sign back their player) for 10mp and now looks like a real bargain. The versatile midfielder is an absolutely brilliant epitome of the word “versatile”. Brendan Rodgers used the midfielder as a defender for most of the second half of the season and the result was good. He made 40 appearances for the Reds in his debut season. Can will hope to be fielded in his natural midfielder role but Rodgers and Liverpool supporters know that the Turkish- German can be used in other positions if need be.

Can continues his football with the U-21 side as he takes part in the European U-21 Championship in the Czech Republic.

Ahead of Germany’s opening match against Serbia, the 21-year-old spoke of his desire to win trophies with the Merseysiders next season and insisted he didn’t join the club just to play football.

“I didn’t just come to Liverpool to play football,” he said.

“I want to win trophies. Therefore, I want to win one first with the U21 team.”

Can will face soon-to-be Liverpool teammate Danny Ings, Tottenham’s Harry Kane and West Brom’s Saido Berahino, some players he has seen up-close and will be vary of what they can do.

“It’s very good, what I’ve experienced in Liverpool,” he continued.

“The work with youth players in England is very good. England U21s have a really good team too and are favourites. Therefore I hope they don’t play us.”
